Dr. David Croland — Charlotte Weight Loss Doctor

Dr. David Croland is an Osteopathic Physician who leads the team of bariatric weight loss doctors in Charlotte at Learn2Lose. He earned his medical degree at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency training at the E.W. Sparrow Hospital Michigan State University Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Croland became board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (1992-2018) and in 2010 achieved certification by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, the organization that certifies bariatric weight loss doctors in the US and abroad. He is also a Diplomate of the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. David Croland leads our team of weight loss doctors and providers at Learn2Lose Center For Weight Management, founded in August 2006. Prior to starting Learn2Lose, Dr. Croland practiced Family Medicine and Urgent Care since relocating to the Carolinas in 1992. His personal struggle with weight gain and eventual obesity led him to the specialty of non-surgical Bariatric Medicine.

Dr. Croland’s Approach to Medical Weight Loss

Dr. Croland believes that sustainable weight loss requires more than a prescription — it requires a comprehensive understanding of each patient’s metabolism, hormones, body composition, and lifestyle. At Learn2Lose, every treatment plan begins with a thorough medical evaluation and InBody body composition analysis, giving the clinical team an objective baseline to work from. As a dedicated weight loss doctor in Charlotte, Dr. Croland combines clinical expertise with personalized care that telehealth services simply cannot match.

Dr. Croland was an early adopter of GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy for weight management, integrating semaglutide and tirzepatide into his practice well before these medications became household names. His clinical experience with GLP-1 medications, combined with his background in obesity medicine, allows him to prescribe and manage these treatments with a level of nuance that telehealth platforms simply cannot replicate. Dosing adjustments, side effect management, and long-term maintenance planning are all handled in-person at every visit.

For patients who are not candidates for GLP-1 medications, or who prefer a non-GLP approach, Dr. Croland offers a full range of alternatives including phentermine, lipotropic injections, metabolic support protocols, and nutrition-focused programs designed to achieve lasting fat loss while preserving lean muscle mass.

Dr. Croland’s Personal
Experience with Losing Weight

Dr. David Croland has been very open about his own weight journey as he found himself approaching 200 pounds in his late 30s. After years of late night bad eating habits while working as an urgent care physician, Dr. Croland realized his 5’9″ frame could not withstand his growing waistline and decided to reverse course by implementing the very strategies he now prescribes: cutting calories, exercising 3-5 times a week, and shifting away from the low-fat dogma. Within three months, he dropped 30 pounds, inspiring him to found his weight-loss clinic Learn2Lose.

A Bariatrician is a licensed physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of overweight, obesity and other weight-related conditions. Commonly referred to as weight loss doctors, bariatricians commonly specialize in one of the primary care fields before undertaking additional education and training to become certified in Obesity Medicine.

Any physician can diagnose obesity and prescribe a basic weight loss plan, but a bariatrician has studied the diagnosis and treatment of overweight and obesity extensively. A bariatrician has the skills, techniques and knowledge necessary to tailor a weight management program to the needs of each individual patient. This means that when working with a bariatrician, you have an increased chance of success with their programs.

Bariatricians help their patients lose weight and keep it off with a comprehensive program of diet and nutrition, exercise, lifestyle changes and, when appropriate, weight loss* medications.
