A year ago I was such a MESS! Overworked, stressed out, and overweight. That did not include the checklist of medical concerns starting with a heart problem, shingles, a frozen shoulder and to top it off, I was just beginning menopause.
I faced the facts and knew I needed help. I called Learn2Lose and decided that whatever they told me to do…I would do it and give 100%. My goal was not to wake up every morning tired and in pain! But it was more than that… I wanted to feel like myself and be healthy again.
The first step for me was changing how and what I ate! It was really a learning experience. I was eating all the wrong things…mostly processed foods and at the wrong time of the day. I quickly discovered the local vegetables markets and learned how to cook healthy! I made the connection that when I ate a non-processed, high-protein, low-carb diet….I really was not hungry! As a result, I did not miss one week of steady weight loss* —losing from 1 to 5 lbs*. every week!
Another secret for me was on the same day I started with Learn2Lose, I started to exercise. I committed to do at least 30 minutes of some exercise EVERY DAY. At first, I started walking. Then I listened to my body and did what worked for me, adding cardio dance and water aerobics. I must confess, when I started, I was at the back of the class…panting and working very hard. As I built up strength and stamina, I decided to add strength training.
And I can’t leave out my support system! The Learn2Lose team helped me every week to understand why my weight loss* that week was what it was. My food journal showed me in black and white what I was eating and how it affected my body. My sister was my weight-loss buddy and we supported each other by sharing tips, crying through the tough times and celebrating when we made our weekly goals!
Thanks to Learn2Lose ….today I have lost over 100 lbs*.! I feel the best I have felt in 10 years. People do not recognize me. They say I look 20 years younger! I am still on my journey of maintaining my weight loss* and so far have been consistent each week. I really did Learn2Lose and my goal is to beat the odds … to maintain my weight and the way I feel today for life!
One of my aerobic instructors summed up how I feel with a quote at the end of class today – “There is really no cosmetic or diet for happiness”. Learning to lose for me is so much more than a diet!
